1 Implantation method

An efficient implantation method is a prerequisite for the industrialization of RFID electronic tags in tires. It is mainly implanted in the tire building process and on the surface of the green tire. The specific implantation process is briefly introduced below.

1.1 Implantation during tire building

The implantation of RFID electronic tags into the tire can be completed during the tire building process, which is the production process of the tire blank. The method of implantation is to use a film to stick the electronic label on the semi-finished part of the tire. The semi-finished part can be a belt, a ply, a sidewall rubber or an inner lining. The film used for pasting must be consistent with the material of the corresponding semi-finished parts.

On the building drum, after the carcass cord is installed, the electronic label is pasted on the surface of the cord with a film. After the carcass is turned up, the electronic tag is sealed in the sidewall. The implantation method of full steel tire and semi-steel tire is basically the same.

1.2 Surface implantation of green tire

In addition to implanting electronic tags in the tire building process, it can also be implanted in the tire blank after the molding process. In this method, the electronic label is pasted on the surface of the blank tire with a film, the inner lining layer must be pasted on the surface of the inner lining layer, and the sidewall rubber must be used for pasting on the sidewall surface. Compared with implantation in the molding process, this method will shorten the reading distance of the tag. The reason is that the rubber close to the mold during tire vulcanization is more fluid than the internal rubber, and the electronic tag bears relatively greater stress, which affects Signal transmission.

2 Implantation position

The tire is composed of a variety of semi-finished parts, and the placement of the electronic tag in the tire is very important for the reading and writing of chip information after the tire is implanted. The location of the implantation should not only be conducive to the reliability of the electronic tag, but also minimize the impact on the quality of the tire. Therefore, the choice of implant location is a key issue for the application of RFID electronic tags in the tire quality control process.

The method of implanting between the sidewall filler and sidewall rubber can meet the performance requirements. This method is completed in the carcass bonding process. After the carcass cord is stitched and pressed, the electronic label is pasted at the position calibrated by the laser positioning cursor, and then the subsequent process is continued.

3 Reliability testing of electronic label packaging

Through bubble inspection, X-ray inspection, dynamic balance uniformity inspection and durability test, the tires with RFID electronic tags are tested to verify the flexural pressure, anti-interference and high temperature resistance of the electronic tags and whether it will affect the tire performance.

3.1 Bubble detection

Under normal circumstances, if foreign matter is stored in the tire and used for a long time, the foreign matter may separate from the tire rubber, and the gap will gradually increase, which will eventually lead to the tire being scrapped. In this regard, we performed bubble detection on mass-produced and road-tested RFID tires. The results showed that no bubbles were found in the position where the RFID electronic tag was implanted. Therefore, the RFID electronic tag can be well combined with the tire and will not cause air bubbles inside the tire.

3.2 X-ray inspection

With the help of tire X-ray inspection equipment, the structure of the implanted RFID electronic tag can be inspected. Because the tire manufacturing process is subjected to processes such as high temperature and high pressure, the RFID electronic tag may be damaged in this link, so that it cannot communicate with the outside world. Through X-ray inspection, you can clearly see the position of the RFID tag in the tire. The test results show that for newly produced RFID tires, the RFID electronic tag in the middle of the sidewall has a longer reading distance. The reason is that this part of the tire is thinner and has little interference with radio frequency signals. The RFID electronic tags on the sidewalls near the spigot and the shoulders have a shorter reading distance. For tires that have completed the road test, the RFID electronic tags in the middle part of the sidewall and the shoulder part cannot be read, but the parts near the spigot can be read. After dissecting the test tire after the road test, it can be found that the antenna and chip of the RFID electronic tag have a virtual welding situation. The reason is that the middle part of the tire sidewall is bent and deformed, which damages the antenna structure of the electronic tag and affects the transmission of the force signal.

3.3 Dynamic balance uniformity detection

Parameters such as tire dynamic balance uniformity directly affect the stability and safety of tire driving. With the help of dynamic balance uniformity testing equipment, we test tires implanted with RFID electronic tags. The results show that the actual mass of the RFID electronic tag is only 0.02g, and the tire’s dynamic balance uniformity will not be affected after being implanted in the tire.

3.4 Durability test and road test

In order to ensure the safety of the test, an indoor mileage test should be carried out before the actual road test of the RFID test tire. Routine durability test results show that the RFID test tire will not be affected by the implanted RFID electronic tag during operation. The road test can only be carried out after the indoor tire has passed the durability test. The road test results show that the RFID electronic tag will not affect the quality of the tire when the tire runs in various actual road conditions. At the same time, it can ensure that the data stored in the chip can be read normally after the tire is used. Life cycle tracking management.

4 Conclusion

The best implantation position and implantation method of the electronic tag are verified through experiments, and the reliability test of the electronic tag is mainly researched, mainly through the air bubble, X-ray, dynamic balance uniformity, durability test and testing of the test tire. Tests and other tests are carried out, and the test results show that the implantation of RFID tags in the tires will not affect the quality and safety performance of the tires.
